Overview

Teachers often stay within the same school district for many years, which means they aren’t typically searching for new career opportunities. However, being active on LinkedIn can provide surprising benefits, from professional learning and collaboration to career advancement when the time comes. This video-based eLearning module was designed to show current and transitioning educators how LinkedIn can support their professional growth.

Analyze

To ground the module in learner needs, I conducted interviews with subject matter experts and prospective learners, including LinkedIn expert Peter Walpole and several teachers at different career stages. Educators shared that they were unfamiliar with what it meant to be “active” on LinkedIn or how the platform could support them. These insights directly informed the learning objectives and content strategy.

Design

Using backward design, I created a text-based storyboard organized into four sections:

  • Why LinkedIn is valuable for teachers

  • How to navigate networking functionalities

  • Tips for optimizing a profile (later split into a separate module)

  • Strategies for engaging one’s network

From there, I developed visual mockups in Adobe XD and Adobe After Effects, sourcing and customizing vector images from Freepik to create characters and environments. Iterating in Adobe XD allowed me to refine layout, hierarchy, and contrast before moving into production.

Develop

Because the module was content-heavy rather than decision-driven, I chose a video-based approach. I built animated assets in After Effects and Vyond, then assembled the full module in Articulate 360. Along the way, I created an interactive prototype of the “Navigating the Platform” section, gathering feedback from stakeholders and refining both visuals and narration.

Result

The final product is a polished, video-based eLearning experience that guides teachers step by step through LinkedIn’s networking features. By pairing real-world SME insights with engaging multimedia design, the module helps educators see LinkedIn not only as a job-hunting tool but also as a platform for ongoing professional learning and connection.
